The climate of Portsmouth
According to Bridgat, Portsmouth is the second largest city on the Caribbean island of Dominica. The former capital is located in the northwest of the island. The reason for moving the capital to Roseau has been the outbreak of malaria. Ultimately, the capital never moved back from Roseau to Portsmouth. North of the town is the Cabrits National Park on a peninsula. This national park is an extinct volcano. Today there are hiking trails through the tropical rainforest. The most famous part of the park is Fort Shirley, a British occupation from the 18th century. Portsmouth has a tropical rainforest climate, which is indicated by the letter code Af within the Köppen-Geiger climate system. Heavy showers and clear skies alternate regularly.
