Kenya – Amboseli, Ol Pejeta, Masai Mara

Kenya – 14 days

Day 1 Travel to Nairobi

Day 2 Nairobi – Selenkay (Amboseli)

On arrival you will be met by your safari guide and set off on the four-hour drive to the private Selenkay Conservancy where you will arrive in time for lunch. After a few hours of relaxation and afternoon tea, it’s time for a short hike together with one of the local Maasai to the village that together with your camp preserves Selenkay’s nature. You get an insight into their fascinating culture and way of life. The afternoon continues with a first safari in the open 4 × 4 Landrovers. At sunset you stop for your drink overlooking Kilimanjaro and when darkness has fallen you end your safari in the light of the lights to see the nocturnal animals on their way back to your camp where dinner awaits.

Day 3 Amboseli

After an early breakfast, set off along Porini’s private entrance to Amboseli. Throughout the day you explore the park with your guide. You will have your lunch in the shade overlooking Kilimanjaro and Amboseli’s rich wildlife. When the afternoon heat begins to lighten, you continue your search for the animals you have not yet seen. In the autumn, when the plain is dotted with wildebeest and zebras and when elephants, giraffes, hyenas, buffaloes, antelopes etc. appear behind every corner, then Amboseli is at its best. Late in the afternoon you return to Selenkay for your evening safari in the dark. After an intense day on safari, it’s nice to return to your camp for dinner.

Day 4 Selenkay – Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Early breakfast followed by a short safari through Amboseli to the small airfield where Safarilink takes you by plane via Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Nanyuki. Upon arrival, you will be met for a transfer to Porini Rhino Camp in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy at the foot of Mount Kenya. Lunch and afternoon tea in the camp and then you go on a rhino safari together with your guide in the camp’s 4 × 4 safari jeep. You are back in your camp in time for dinner.

Day 5 Ol Pejeta Conservancy

The new Porini Rhino Camp is located in the 35,000-hectare Ol Pejeta Conservancy located between the Aberdare Mountains and the magnificent, snow-capped Mount Kenya. Ol Pejeta Conservancy boasts an astonishing variety of game including the “Big Five” (black rhino, leopard, elephant, buffalo and lion). It is also a haven for rescued chimpanzees and also includes the smaller Sweetwaters Game Reserve. The combination of amazing nature and fantastic views over the open plains of Ol Pejeta guarantees an unforgettable safari. Ol Pejeta Conservancy has a 25,000 hectare area reserved exclusively for 4 × 4 safari vehicles and small exclusive eco-campers. Porini Rhino Camp is hidden in a secluded valley, in the shade of acacia trees on the banks of a seasonal river. The camp consists of only six spacious safari tents, comfortably furnished with private shower and toilet. The camp is very environmentally friendly and all electricity comes from solar energy. All safaris are carried out in the camp’s 4 × 4 safari vehicle with qualified safari guides. It also offers safaris on foot on the open plains together with Maasai warriors. For those who wish, there is also the opportunity for a night safari to see the nocturnally active animals.

Day 6 Ol Pejeta Conservancy – Ol Kinyei Conservancy (Masai Mara)

In the morning, you continue your journey by plane along the Great Rift Valley to perhaps the most talked about of all the world’s national parks, the Masai Mara. Nowhere else in Africa is the supply of animals as great as here over the vast savannas, most of Africa’s well-known mammals are represented. You have a very good chance of seeing some of the approximately 1000 lions in the area. When landing on Siana’s runway, you will be met by staff from Mara Porini who will drive to your camp. After making yourself at home and having lunch, it’s time for your afternoon safari at the Ol Kinyei Conservancy, followed by a drink at sunset overlooking the plains of the Masai Mara. Finally, you return to your camp for a shower, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7 Ol Kinyei Conservancy (Masai Mara)

Wake up to the sound of the Masai Mara’s bird life. After an early breakfast, you go for a morning walk in the reserve escorted by Maasai warriors and your guide, you return to the camp in the morning. During your afternoon safari you continue to explore the Ol Kinyei Conservancy in search of elephants, buffalo, giraffes and the big cats After dinner, the day ends with a night safari to search for nocturnal animals such as Ol Kinyei’s elusive leopards.

Day 8 Ol Kinyei Conservancy (Masai Mara) – Olare Orok Conservancy (Masai Mara)

After breakfast you leave your camp for the beautiful journey across the Koiyaki plain from Ol Kinyei Conservancy to Olare Orok Conservancy where you arrive in time for lunch at Porini Lion Camp. You do your afternoon game drive in the Olare Orok Conservancy, far away from the minibuses and passenger vehicles seen in the national park. You have good chances to see lions, geopats and leopards that are all in the area.

Day 9 Olare Orok Conservancy (Masai Mara)

Throughout the day, explore the Masai Mara National Park with your guide. You start the day early when the animals are most active. Your lunch is eaten in the shade of an Acacia tree on the savannah and when the afternoon heat begins to lighten, you continue your search for the animals you have not yet seen. In time for the sunset, you are back in Olare Orok to admire the sunset, have dinner and if you wish to do one last night safari.

Day 10 Masai Mara – Zanzibar

Today is the opportunity to end your safari with a balloon ride across the savannah at sunrise. After breakfast you then take the flight back from the Masai Mara’s endless plains towards Nairobi for a change to your flight towards Zanzibar’s golden beaches. Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide for transport to your hotel on the east coast of Zanzibar.

Day 11 – 13 Zanzibar

Lazy days on Zanzibar. During your stay, we recommend that you do a full day dolphin tour on the south coast of Zanzibar, a half day rainforest tour and a half day spice tour around the island. Also visit Prison Island for a full day of swimming and snorkeling on the old prison island. Do not miss to visit the old giant turtles that live on the island.

Day 14 – 15 Return journey

After breakfast you will be picked up for transfer to the airport to start the journey home.
