Basic travel information
Tropical Sri Lanka attracts tourists with its long sandy beaches, fascinating historical and cultural sites, beautiful and varied landscapes and wild nature.
Our tour of Sri Lanka takes us to different corners of this tear-shaped island nation to explore the historical monuments of the cultural triangle in the central part of the island, the highland tea plantations and the wildlife of Yala National Park. At the end of the trip, we also had time to relax on the beach and in the waves of the Indian Ocean.
* Christmas departure return flight on the evening of the 10th day when arrival in Finland from the 11th morning.
DAY 1 – FLIGHTS TO SRI LANKA
Flights from Helsinki-Vantaa via Doha to Sri Lanka.
DAY 2 – COLOMBO
Arrival at Colombo airport, transfer from the airport to the hotel. The rest of the day free time and relaxation after the flights.

DAY 3 – PIDURANGALA, SIGRIYA
After breakfast, a transfer to the central part of Sri Lanka, the Sigriya region, home to one of Sri Lanka’s most famous attractions, the Sigriya Stone Fortress, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We take a walk around the village of Hiriwadunta and the artificial lake. In the afternoon we will rise in the 400s share. to the top of the inhabited stone fortress of Pidurangala, which overlooks the corresponding fortress of Sigriya. Dinner and overnight at Sigriya. DAY 4 – MATALE – KANDY
Today we travel south from Sigriya towards Kandya. Along the way, we will visit the spice center in Matale and the artisan village of Naththarampotha. We move to the historic city of Kandy, which is also one of Sri Lanka’s World Heritage Sites. The city is also known as a center for jewelery and handicrafts. In the evening, a visit to Kandy’s famous Buddha Tooth Temple, as well as a traditional dance show that culminates in a hot coal walk. (OH)

DAY 5 – KANDY
We visit attractions around Kandy, such as the cozy Peradeniya Botanical Gardens and the area’s three historic temples, as well as a village inhabited by traditional drum makers. (OH)

DAY 6 – NUWARA ELIYA
After breakfast, we set off to travel through the tea-growing areas of the central highlands of Sri Lanka towards the peaceful little town of Nuwara Eliya. Located on the plateau at about 2,000 meters above sea level, Nuwara Eliyan was originally established by the British in the 19th century as the center of a tea-growing area and a getaway from the heat of Sri Lanka’s tropical coastal areas. Along the way, we visit one of the tea plantations in the area. We will do a tour of Nuwara Eliya after arriving on a tour of the city. (OH)

DAY 7 – YALA NATIONAL PARK
We leave Nuwara Eliya behind and descend from the highland tea-growing area to the hot, humid southern coast of Sri Lanka. We stop along the way at a pottery workshop. Next to the village of Tissamaharama begins Sri Lanka’s most famous conservation area and safari site, the 1,260-square-kilometer Yala National Park. In the dense forests and wetlands of Yala, wild Indian elephants, leopards, monkeys, crocodiles and polar bears thrive as well as large numbers of birds. In the afternoon we do a safari ride in the national park on a jeep ride. (OH)

DAY 8 – GALLE, KALUTARA
After breakfast, we leave Yala behind and travel along the coast of Sri Lanka to a beach resort on the west coast of the island to enjoy the warm waves of the Indian Ocean. Along the way, we will visit the historic port city of Gale. (OH)
